Why Invest in DPFs?
Why Invest in DPFs?
While DPFs might seem like they would increase fuel consumption and truck operating costs, they actually significantly help in the long run! DPFs help improve fuel efficiency and engine life, while improving overall engine health for the following reasons:
Cleaner Engine Operation:
DPFs prevent soot and particulates from accumulating inside the engine and exhaust components. Over time, this makes the engine’s combustion cleaner and more efficient.
Reduced Engine Wear and Maintenance Needs:
Regeneration Process Enhances Efficiency:
DPFs periodically go through a process called regeneration, where accumulated soot is burned off at high temperatures, cleaning the filter. Over time, this process results in net fuel savings because the engine does not suffer from clogged exhaust flow.
Optimized Exhaust Flow and Reduced Back-Pressure:
DPF design and regular regeneration ensure the filter remains clean, which minimizes exhaust resistance. A clean DPF allows exhaust gases to flow smoothly, enabling the engine to breathe better and work more efficiently. An efficient exhaust flow reduces fuel consumption as the engine doesn’t have to push as hard to expel exhaust gases.
This chart shows how after two years, the average with a DPF filter will become significantly more fuel-efficient than a truck without one:
